KYF Celebrates World Menstrual Day with Purpose and Power in Korogocho

Empowering Girls, Breaking Stigma, and Building a Brighter Future.

On May 28th, 2025, the Kenya Youth Federation (KYF) turned Ngunyumu Primary School in Korogocho into a beacon of hope and empowerment as it hosted one of its most impactful events to date , a vibrant celebration of World Menstrual Hygiene Day.

This wasn’t just an event. It was a movement, one driven by compassion, action, and the belief that every girl deserves dignity, education, and opportunity.

From the early morning energy to the final cheer of the day, the school compound came alive with over 300 students, teen mothers, volunteers, mentors, and community members. The goal was clear: to break the silence, dismantle the stigma, and foster a supportive environment for conversations around menstrual health, self-esteem, and girls’ empowerment.

Highlights of the Day:

  1. Over 1,000 sanitary pads were distributed to girls in need , a small gesture with a massive impact on school attendance and self-worth.
  2. Each student received a packet of milk, reinforcing the importance of nutrition alongside menstrual health.
  3. A series of engaging mentorship sessions covered critical topics such as menstrual hygiene management, drug abuse awareness, peer pressure, environmental conservation, career development, digital safety, and talent nurturing.
  4. The event featured fun and educational competitions, inspiring girls to use their voice, express their dreams, and gain confidence in their identities.

The event was a beautiful fusion of education, advocacy, and community spirit, made possible by a network of passionate KYF volunteers and partners. What stood out was the message that kept echoing through every session , “Menstruation is natural, not shameful.”

As the girls laughed, learned, and opened up, one thing became clear: KYF is not just organizing events,  it’s transforming lives.

A Step Towards a More Empowered Nation
KYF’s commitment to youth and gender empowerment goes far beyond one day. With over 2.3 million members nationwide, the organization continues to build platforms for inclusion, education, and leadership , reaching the underserved and unheard.

This World Menstrual Day event is part of KYF’s wider mission to ensure that every girl in Kenya has access to not just pads, but also to the knowledge, confidence, and community she needs to thrive.
