Kenya Youth Federation (KYF) is proud to be part of GENCOY – Gender, Corruption, and Youth: Building Inclusive Futures through Virtual Exchange, an innovative Erasmus+ Virtual Exchange project that empowers young people, educators, and youth organizations to address the complex intersections of gender inequality, corruption, and access to justice.
The project brings together partners from Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa to create inclusive digital spaces where young people can engage in intercultural dialogue, collaborative learning, and civic engagement. Through this partnership, KYF plays a key role in mobilizing and empowering youth in Kenya and the wider region to participate in conversations and actions that strengthen accountability, equality, and democratic participation.
What GENCOY Seeks to Achieve
GENCOY focuses on strengthening the capacities of university lecturers, youth workers, and young changemakers by providing innovative learning tools and exchange platforms that promote critical reflection and active citizenship.
The project will develop a bilingual curriculum and digital learning toolkit in English and Kiswahili, ensuring accessibility and relevance to young people in Sub-Saharan Africa. This linguistic approach goes beyond communication; it promotes cultural empowerment and contributes to the broader effort of decolonizing knowledge systems so that learning resonates with the indigenous identity and lived experiences of African youth.
Through interactive and participatory learning methods, GENCOY encourages:
Critical thinking and analytical engagement
Real-world application of governance and accountability concepts
Inclusive communication and facilitation skills
Cross-cultural collaboration and knowledge sharing
Engaging Over 2,500 Young People
A central pillar of the project is the Virtual Exchange platform, which will bring together more than 2,500 youth from Sub-Saharan Africa and Europe. Participants will engage in structured discussions and collaborative activities exploring:
Gendered experiences of corruption
Barriers to justice and accountability
Strategies for civic engagement and social change
Building transnational solidarity networks among young leaders
Through these exchanges, participants will co-develop innovative ideas and community-driven solutions that promote integrity, equality, and democratic participation.
Training and Curriculum Development
The training modules under GENCOY are designed in collaboration with partner institutions and are grounded in academic research and policy knowledge on the relationship between gender and corruption. The curriculum will be flexible and context-responsive, allowing it to be integrated into existing teaching programs within universities and youth training platforms.
The project also follows a rigorous quality assurance cycle, ensuring that the learning materials and exchanges remain effective, relevant, and impactful.
Importantly, all the materials developed through the project will be open access, enabling universities, youth organizations, and women’s organizations to utilize them beyond the formal project activities.
A Global Partnership
GENCOY is implemented through a strong consortium of partners across Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa, bringing together universities, research institutions, and youth organizations committed to advancing governance, gender justice, and civic education.
These partners collaborate to design the curriculum, facilitate virtual exchanges, conduct research, and expand the program’s impact across multiple countries and communities.
Through this collaborative structure, the project ensures a balanced exchange of knowledge and perspectives between African and European institutions, strengthening global dialogue on governance and equality.
A Sustainable Future Beyond the Project
GENCOY is not designed as a one-time training program but as a long-term capacity-building initiative. Its sustainability roadmap ensures that the curriculum, digital tools, and networks developed during the project will continue to serve youth leaders, educators, and institutions long after the official project cycle ends.
By building the knowledge, confidence, and leadership capacity of young people, the initiative contributes to:
Stronger civic engagement
Increased accountability and transparency
Gender equality and inclusive governance
Democratic resilience across regions
The Role of Kenya Youth Federation
As one of the partners in this initiative, Kenya Youth Federation will support the mobilization of youth participants, contribute to training delivery, and help ensure that the voices and experiences of Kenyan youth are reflected in the global dialogue on gender and corruption.
KYF believes that empowering young people with knowledge and leadership skills is essential in shaping a more transparent, just, and inclusive society.
Preparing Youth for the Opportunity
KYF encourages young people across Kenya to prepare for this transformative learning opportunity. The upcoming trainings will sharpen leadership capacity, strengthen understanding of corruption and governance, and equip participants with practical tools to promote accountability in their communities.
