On 16th June,2025, Kenya Youth Federation (KYF) leadership paid a courtesy visit to Kitui County Governor, Dr. Julius Malombe, in a meeting that marked a major step towards youth empowerment and environmental conservation in the region.
The KYF team was led by Collins Otieno (National Treasurer), Joyce Nganga (KYF Women Whip), Erick Nyamai (KYF Kitui County Ambassador), and Grace Mwende (Climate Ambassador – Kitui). The meeting took place at the Governor’s boardroom at the County Headquarters.
The Governor welcomed the KYF team warmly and showed great support for youth-led initiatives. Also present were senior county officials including CECMs Phoebe Mutemi, Dr. Stephen Mbaya, and Richard Mwendandu, and Chief Officers Nason Kang’alya, Fedinard Kathenge,Jonathan Kyambi, and Gladys Kivoto.
Key Discussions and Agreements
The main focus of the meeting was on how KYF and the Kitui County Government can work together to:
- Empower youth through capacity building and entrepreneurship programs
- Promote climate-smart agriculture and sustainable tourism
- Involve youth in policy-making and county development
- Support grassroots environmental conservation programs
The KYF team explained their commitment to involving more young people in practical and sustainable programs that create income, protect the environment, and build strong communities.
Governor Malombe agreed that youth should not just be seen as beneficiaries of programs but as leaders and creators of change. He showed interest in formalizing the partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to ensure continuous collaboration with KYF.
Why This Meeting Matters
This partnership is very important for both KYF and the County Government. Kitui County, which is often affected by climate change and unemployment, needs programs that will give young people new opportunities. KYF, with its network of over 2 million youth across Kenya, is well positioned to help bring change from the ground up.
By joining efforts, KYF and the Kitui County Government can make a real difference in areas like agriculture, business development, environmental protection, and community health.
A Message of Gratitude
KYF thanks Governor Dr. Julius Malombe and all county officials for their warm welcome and willingness to work with young people. This meeting showed that with unity and partnership, we can solve real problems and build a better future for Kenya’s youth.
We look forward to working together in future programs that will make Kitui a model county for youth innovation and sustainable development.

Enough is enough.
Our children continue to suffer in silence as perpetrators of child defilement walk free, shielded by fear, stigma, and broken systems. It is not just a crime against a child. It is a crime against humanity.
We can no longer turn a blind eye.
We must speak up.
We must stand up.
We must act.
