The Kenya Youth Federation (K.Y.F) Siaya County Chapter Executive Committee, led by the vibrant and visionary County Ambassador Mr. Felix Omondi Juma, held a pivotal indoor meeting with the Siaya County Government to discuss collaborative strategies for youth inclusion, economic empowerment, and environmental conservation.
The meeting, chaired by Chief of Staff Hon. Cyrus Oguna, brought together key county officials including the County Youth Coordinator Hon. Fredrick Ochieng Opanga and representatives from the Department of Youths and Sports. The discussion was fruitful and centered around how K.Y.F can play a strategic role in driving youth-centered initiatives across the county.
Top priorities discussed included:
- Youth-Led Livestock Project: KYF proposed the introduction of youth-run livestock programs aimed at creating employment, promoting agribusiness, and contributing to household incomes.
- Tree Nursery Project: With Siaya County currently ranking lowest in national tree cover at just 0.23%, this project aims to change the narrative. KYF plans to launch youth-managed tree nurseries across the county with a bold goal of raising Siaya’s tree cover to 20% within the next two years.
- Prioritizing KYF in County Youth Programs: KYF requested the county government to give its structured, grassroots-based organization first priority in accessing and implementing county youth development projects, citing its wide reach, accountability, and proven capacity.
- In his address, Ambassador Felix Omondi Juma emphasized the importance of structured youth engagement, stating:
“KYF has brought a new structure and vision to Siaya. We are now strategically positioned to benefit from any opportunity that comes our way. Our unity has transformed how youth are viewed and included, and Siaya stands to benefit greatly through its young people.”
His call to the county leadership was clear, trust and invest in the KYF structure to create real, grassroots transformation. The county leadership, in turn, welcomed KYF’s initiative and expressed readiness to work together to deliver on a shared vision for a more empowered youth population.
This landmark meeting sets a powerful example of how government and organized youth can collaborate to build a better future. With KYF’s robust national structure and localized leadership, Siaya is now poised to lead the way in youth development and environmental sustainability.
We urge all counties across Kenya to follow Siaya’s example and embrace KYF as a reliable bridge to achieving meaningful youth inclusion, empowerment, and innovation. The time has come for county governments to engage youth not as passive participants, but as Partners in progress.
To our KYF Ambassadors in all 47 counties, let the example set by Ambassador Felix Omondi Juma be a beacon of leadership. This is what true service, vision, and action look like, let’s replicate it nationwide.
The KYF National Governing Council recognizes and applauds the dedication of all Siaya County KYF leaders who attended the meeting: Felix Omondi Juma, Madam Rose Atieno, Mr Jack Ohito, Mdm Sharon Adhiambo Ochieng, Mr Kevin Owino, Madam Natasha Achoki, Stephen Odhiambo, Charles Amina, Ann Juma, Jovent Omondi, Everlyn Auma, Morgan Omondi, Maureen Achieng, Joe Onyango, and Sylvester Omondi.
