KYF Kakamega Engages County Leadership to Strengthen Youth Empowerment Agenda

In a strong show of commitment to youth development, the leadership of Kenya Youth Federation (KYF) Kakamega Chapter recently held strategic courtesy meetings with two senior county officials; Chief Officer for Trade, Ms. Faith Gitira, and CECM for Sports, Culture and Social Services, Madam Jackline Masicha. These meetings mark a major step toward structured partnerships between KYF and the County Government of Kakamega.

The engagements were led by Deputy Organizing Secretary General Edwin Cheloti, alongside KYF Kakamega County leaders, including Janet (Women League Rep), David, Desterio(Public Admins), and Jacob (PWD Rep). The discussions were centered around key pillars that define KYF’s mission: economic empowerment, youth participation, training and mentorship, and inclusive governance.

Key Outcomes of the Engagements

  1. County Collaboration on Youth Economic Empowerment

Both Ms. Gitira and Madam Masicha expressed the County’s readiness to support organized youth initiatives in trade, tourism, sports, and social development. KYF was urged to continue mobilizing youth and positioning them for upcoming opportunities.

  1. Youth Involvement in Public Participation

CECM Jackline Masicha emphasized the importance of youth actively engaging in public participation forums to voice their needs and shape policy. She noted that many youth miss out on opportunities due to lack of awareness or low turnout in civic engagements.

  1. Training, Seminars, and Business Forums

KYF will benefit from county-organized training programs, mentorship sessions, and trade fairs, where young people will be equipped with business skills, financial literacy, and knowledge to thrive in competitive markets. Both leaders pledged to involve KYF in future economic empowerment forums.

  1. A Welcoming Environment for Partnerships

Ms. Gitira encouraged KYF to present formal partnership proposals for joint youth programs in trade and industrialization. She assured the team of her willingness to help align county support with KYF’s mission of creating income-generating platforms for youth.

What This Means for KYF Kakamega

These high-level engagements confirm that Governor Fernandes Barasa’s administration recognizes youth as central to the county’s development. KYF now has a stronger platform to:

  • Mobilize youth into productive, income-generating activities.
  • Push for representation in decision-making processes.
  • Secure technical support and access to county platforms for business and training.
  • Deepen partnerships with key departments aligned with youth development.

Next Steps

KYF Kakamega leadership is committed to following up on these engagements by submitting detailed partnership proposals and program concepts. These efforts will ensure long-term collaboration with the County Government, ultimately resulting in visible, transformative opportunities for youth in Kakamega.
