KYF Kakamega Chapter: Restoring Hope and Dignity for Young Women Survivors of GBV

Transforming Pain into Power Through Socioeconomic Empowerment

In the heart of Kakamega County, a powerful wave of transformation is taking place, quietly, yet impactfully. Through the Kenya Youth Federation (KYF) goal of empowering youth, women, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and marginalized communities, lives are being rebuilt, dignity restored, and dreams reignited.

Under the remarkable leadership of Ms. Janet Wekesa, the Kakamega County KYF Women Whip, young women aged 18 to 35 years, all of them survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), were recently mobilized and brought together for a life-changing training initiative. These courageous women, each carrying stories of pain and survival, found hope in a new beginning—through financial literacy and life skills training facilitated by KYF.

The training is not just a class, it is a lifeline. The young women are now not only equipped with knowledge, but they also stand to receive grants to start their own businesses, paving the way for self-reliance, healing, and long-term empowerment. This is how KYF is walking its talk, through real, on-the-ground action that transforms challenges into stepping stones.

“These girls have gone through more than anyone should at their age,” shared one of the facilitators.
“But through KYF, they are rediscovering their worth, their power, and their voice.”

Every participant in this program is a registered KYF member, a proof that KYF is not just a platform, it is a family, a support system, and a bridge to a better life. These are not just statistics. These are mothers, sisters, and daughters who now believe again. Who now have a reason to smile, to rise, and to build their own future.

We call on all members of the public, if you know a vulnerable girl under 35 years in Kakamega County suffering from GBV, please do not remain silent. Reach out to us through the contact section on our website: www.kenyayouthfederation.org

This is your chance to be the light in someone’s darkness.

We also encourage all youth across Kenya to register as KYF members. Our tailor-made programs are designed to uplift, educate, empower, and equip you to lead and thrive. From life skills to business opportunities, from leadership training to environmental action; KYF is creating a network of unstoppable change-makers.

To Ms. Janet Wekesa, we extend our heartfelt appreciation. Your passion, dedication, and tireless efforts are a shining example of what true leadership looks like. Because of leaders like you, KYF continues to touch lives and turn pain into purpose.

KYF is more than a movement. It is a revolution. And it begins with you.
